Update on Train Collisions in Indonesia: All Passengers are Safe

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Management of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) said that up to now there have been no fatalities among passengers in the Turangga train accident connecting Surabaya Gubeng-Bandung and Bandung Raya Commuterline Train in Cicalengka, Bandung, West Java, Friday , January 5, 2024.

“Of the total 287 passengers on the Turangga train and 191 passengers on the Commuterline train, 22 passengers were slightly injured and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment,” said EVP of Corporate Secretary KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji in a statement received in Jakarta , Friday.

There are 18 victims being treated in the following details at Cicalengka Regional Hospital, 2 people at Edelweis Hospital, and 2 people at AMC Hospital.

He said that KAI was very sad and expressed its condolences for the death of 4 train officers, consisting of a driver, assistant driver, steward and security officer as a result of the train accident (KKA). KAI really appreciates the services of those who have contributed to the company.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) together with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) immediately investigated the cause of the accident.

Evacuation Process

Meanwhile, the Bandung National Search and Rescue Agency has dispatched a team to evacuate the victims of the accident.

Head of the Bandung National Search and Rescue Agency, Hery Marantika, said the rescue team carried out the evacuation using extraction tools. The evacuation process also involves various elements.

The team that was deployed to the field was divided into two teams, namely those on duty in the field to carry out evacuations and the other team tasked with collecting data at the Cicalengka Regional General Hospital. (AT Network)
