ASIATODAY.ID, DAVOS — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a stark message to global leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 on Thursday, January 22, 2026: peace and stability are no longer optional—they are the foundation of global economic survival.

Speaking before heads of state, global business leaders, and international policymakers in Davos, President Prabowo underscored that the world has entered a phase of profound uncertainty, marked by geopolitical tensions, financial tightening, and political fragmentation. In such a climate, he said, history offers a clear lesson.

“History teaches us that peace and stability are our most valuable assets. Peace and stability are the essential prerequisites for growth and prosperity. There can be no prosperity without peace,” President Prabowo stressed.

Global Turbulence, Indonesia Emerges as a Bright Spot

Against the backdrop of global economic headwinds, President Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s economic resilience, positioning the country as an exception amid widespread uncertainty.

He cited the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which recently described Indonesia as a “global bright spot” in economic growth.

“The IMF has recently described Indonesia as, I quote, a global bright spot with strong economic growth amid a challenging external environment,” Prabowo told the forum.

According to the President, this recognition is not the result of optimism or rhetoric, but of disciplined, evidence-based policymaking.

Inflation Under Control, Fiscal Discipline Intact

President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia has managed to preserve macroeconomic stability despite global shocks. Inflation remains low, while fiscal discipline continues to anchor investor confidence.

“Our inflation remains around 2 percent. Our government deficit is maintained below 3 percent of GDP,” he said.

He added that international confidence in Indonesia’s economy stems from the credibility and consistency of its policies.

“They recognize that Indonesia’s economy is resilient. Our policies have been, and will continue to be, well-calibrated,” the President noted.

Peace as a Strategic Choice, Not an Accident

President Prabowo further argued that Indonesia’s long-standing stability is not accidental, but the result of deliberate national choices—prioritizing unity, cooperation, and prudent governance over confrontation and division.

In a pointed reminder to the international community, he also highlighted Indonesia’s unblemished financial track record, regardless of political transitions.

“Throughout Indonesia’s history, we have never once defaulted on our debt. Not a single time,” Prabowo said firmly.

Indonesia’s Global Message from Davos

President Prabowo’s address at WEF Davos 2026 reinforced Indonesia’s standing as a nation committed to peace, stability, and responsible economic governance—at a time when the global order faces growing strain.

As conflicts intensify and trust erodes in many parts of the world, Indonesia’s message from Davos was clear and uncompromising: the future of the global economy depends on peace. (AT Network)
