ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Singapore is ranked first as the happiest country in Asia according to the World Happiness Report 2024. This position has been occupied by Singapore for the second time. However, globally the country is ranked 30th.
The World Happiness Report 2024 was released on March 20, 2024. The report is from Gallup World Poll data for three years from 2001 to 2023, analyzed by experts from the world’s leading well-being organizations.
Experts also take into account six main factors to get an overall picture of a country’s happiness, ranging from gross domestic product per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, welfare freedom and corruption.
Globally, Finland is the seventh happiest country in the world, followed by Denmark and Iceland. Meanwhile, Singapore’s global ranking fell five places from 25th to 30th.
According to author and editor of the World Happiness Report 2024, Shun Wang, Singapore has performed very well in terms of GDP per capita.
“One of the highest ratings in our data set,” he told CNBC Make It.
In addition, according to Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, Director of the Wellbeing Research Center at Oxford University and editor of the World Happiness Report 2024, Singapore has succeeded in increasing healthy life expectancy.
However, Singapore ranked lower in terms of perceived social support, freedom to make life choices, and generosity.
The 2024 World Happiness Report also focuses on people’s happiness at various stages of life, from young people under 30 years old, to over 60 years old.
Meanwhile in Singapore, those in the upper middle age range are reported to be the happiest group, while those aged 60 years and over are reported to be the least happy group.
