Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum Encourages Peace in the South China Sea

ASIATODAY.ID, MANILA – Deputy Chair of the Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency, Putu Supadma Rudana hopes that with the political and security resolution, at the Plenary Session Political and Security Matters Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) it can encourage peace in the Asia Pacific region, especially the Maritime Region South China.

“Indonesia proposed a resolution on safeguarding maritime security. This resolution is for everyone to regulate a code of conduct which will indeed promote peace and harmony in the Pacific Sea region, more specifically the South China Sea, which is currently experiencing an escalation,” explained Putu Supadma at the end. representing the Indonesian delegation in the First Plenary Meeting at the 31st APPF Annual Session in Manila, Philippines, Saturday, 25 November 2023.

Putu explained that this resolution was very important, considering that the South China Sea was still experiencing friction and disputes. Therefore, it is necessary to hold a resolution that is able to accommodate common interests. So that this conflict does not last long.

“Through dialogue or parliamentary diplomacy, it is very important to find a common agreement so that it does not escalate into conflict which ultimately risks stability and security, and peace in the Asia Pacific region, more specifically in the South China Sea,” explained Putu.

Apart from politics and security, the 31st APPF Annual Meeting which took place from 23-26 November also produced several resolutions. Apart from politics and security, there are also economic and trade fields, as well as regional cooperation. Apart from that, there are forums for young parliaments and women’s parliaments.
