ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The crisis of clean water and new and renewable energy in big cities became the main issue at the general assembly meeting of The Federation of ASEAN Consulting Engineers (FACE) in Jakarta on 24-25 January 2024.

“We are focused on discussing the main issues in big cities, namely the supply of environmentally friendly energy and clean water,” said FACE President Chuck Ko in Jakarta, quoted Friday, January 26 2024.

FACE, which is a collection of consulting service associations in the field of engineering from ASEAN countries, has members consisting of The National Association of Indonesian Consultants (INKINDO), Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia, Myanmar International Consulting Engineering Group, Council of Engineering Consultants of the Philippines, Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore, The Consulting Engineers Association of Thailand, and Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association generally have major issues in their respective countries.

Quoting information from the Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, it was stated that Indonesia still occupies the highest position in the construction market in ASEAN, reaching 67 percent.

“Even at the city level, technical consultants, both regional and international, play an important role in the midst of global competition,” said Chairman of the National Management Board of the National Association of Indonesian Consultants (INKINDO) Erie Heryadi.

Regarding this, Erie explained that the meeting in Jakarta this time discussed opportunities for technical consulting services in ASEAN member countries as well as various experiences including regulations implemented in each country.

Erie explained that the FACE management is appointed once every two years by rotating members, with regular meetings to ensure that the work program can continue to be sustainable.

FACE is affiliated with an international forum, namely the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), in which Indonesia also plays an active role in increasing its existence in the global construction market.

This meeting also discussed membership at a macro level considering that not all ASEAN member countries have joined, including Brunei, Laos, Cambodia and Timor Leste, even though several of these countries also have very potential construction markets.

Regarding these various issues, Chuck Ko expressed his readiness to make it happen considering that ASEAN members have agreed to realize a common market including encouraging cooperation among members which has been ongoing.

Furthermore, Erie also hopes that this meeting can formulate equality in terms of competence among members and socialize the latest regulations in the construction sector in their respective countries.

Another issue that must be discussed is related to job opportunities in each country, which of course must also be known about the applicable regulations, including the social and political aspects that accompany them. Then there are also opportunities for collaboration involving FACE members to work on a construction project in a country.

“FACE itself was formed as a non-profit organization but in its activities it provides support in order to create business opportunities for its members,” said Erie. (ANT)
