ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Chevron has agreed to pay fines of more than $13 million as a result of several oil spills in California, United States.

Quoted from AP, Thursday, March 21 2024, the California-based energy company agreed to pay a fine of $5.6 million related to the oil spill in Kern County in 2019.

An oil spill in 2019 resulted in at least 800,000 gallons (3 million liters) of oil and water spilling into a canyon in Kern County, the center of the state’s oil industry.

This is the largest administrative fine ever imposed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Most of the funds will be allocated to projects aimed at preserving habitat, while a small portion will be donated to the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as to support responses to future oil spills. (ATN)
