ASIATODAY.ID, BANYUWANGI – The International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (ITdBI) bicycle race will be held again for four days, starting 22-25 July 2024.
This international competition is the only road bicycle race in Indonesia which is included in the official agenda of the World Cycling Federation this year.
“This year’s Tour de Ijen is the only race in Indonesia that is included in the 2024 UCI calendar. This is because we are committed to continuing to make bicycle racing an instrument of sport, tourism, stimulating the economy and at the same time consolidating regional infrastructure,” said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani in Banyuwangi , Monday, July 22 2024.
The 2024 ITdBI bicycle race will be held again this year after a four year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regent Ipuk said that the Tour de Ijen, which was included in the Banyuwangi Festival, was held after many suggestions from various parties.
“Many asked that the Tour de Ijen be held again with all considerations in mind, so we decided to hold it this year. That’s what makes this year’s ITdBI much anticipated and popular with cycling teams from various countries,” said Ipuk.
Even though the Tour de Ijen bicycle race was put on hiatus due to the pandemic, bicycle racing events in Banyuwangi are still being held, including Banyuwangi Blue Fire Ijen KOM 2023, Banyuwangi Ijen Geopark Downhill which is also on the official agenda of the World Cycling Federation, and Banyuwangi is the host Tour of Kemala series held by Kemala Bhayangkari and PB Indonesian Sport Bicycle Association (ISSI).
