Indonesia-Australia Open Opportunities for Critical Mineral Supply Chain Collaboration

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia and Australia continue to move to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

Indonesia and Australia can synergize the Golden Indonesia Vision with the Future Made in Australia vision and can continue to play a role in encouraging concrete cooperation to realize regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Pahala Mansury conveyed this at the Indonesia-Australia Diplomatic Reception and celebration of 75 years of relations between Indonesia and Australia in Sydney on 4-5 September 2024.

At the event, Pahala praised Australia’s role in Indonesian independence, especially regarding the recognition of independence and in the UN Good Services Committee.

The good relations between the two countries are reflected to date in the comprehensive strategic partnership and economic agreement (IA CEPA) between the two countries.

In Sydney, Pahala also opened the “Indonesia Updates” Business Forum. During the meeting, he said that Indonesia and Australia are comprehensive strategic partners and it is hoped that this partnership can be reflected in the economic cooperation between the two countries.

Considering the various potentials that Indonesia has, several collaborations that can be encouraged between the two countries include the energy and critical mineral transition, food security, exchange of skilled and professional workers, as well as the service sector, including mining contractors and finance.

On another occasion, he met with the Australian Deputy Minister of Trade, Tim Ayres. During the meeting, Pahala encouraged cooperation between the two countries in the field of critical mineral supply chains in 5 areas, namely dialogue between critical mineral producing countries to increase collaboration, cross investment in critical mineral mining and processing, technology exchange and human resource development including vocational education, meeting standards ESG that is determined jointly, as well as dual track cooperation involving government and the private sector.
