The powerful typhoon, which local residents call Ferdie, has affected more than 330,000 people, with 30,000 of them currently in evacuation centers.

Roads and infrastructure have also been affected by Typhoon Bebinca.

Bebinca hit the central and southern parts of the Philippines on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, early Monday morning, the typhoon hit China’s east coast near the cities of Shanghai and Ningbo.

Typhoon Bebinca, which reached Shanghai in eastern China on Monday morning, has become the strongest typhoon to hit the city since 1949, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

Typhoon Bebinca arrived in Shanghai at 07.30 local time on Monday, with maximum wind speeds reaching 42 meters per second.

“Bebinca surpassed Typhoon Gloria 4906 and became the strongest typhoon to reach Shanghai since 1949,” the CMA said in a statement.

It is estimated that Bebinca will continue to move northwest at a speed of about 25 kilometers per hour, gradually weakening, and on the evening of September 17, it will turn into a tropical depression in the border areas of Anhui and Henan provinces.

Previously, the CMA had issued the highest red level warning regarding the typhoon.

Pudong and Hongqiao airports in Shanghai canceled all flights on Sunday, September 15 after 8pm until 2pm local time on Monday.

Ningbo Airport also suspended flight operations, and flights are expected to resume at 11.30pm local time on Monday.

In addition, passenger train services on several lines of the Yangtze River Delta Railway were suspended.

Meanwhile, toll road traffic in Shanghai is closed or under supervision, and a speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour is imposed on highways. (Sputnik)
