ASIATODAY.ID, HONG KONG – The Government of Indonesia has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to global peace.
On May 30, 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arif Havas Oegroseno, officially signed the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) in Hong Kong. This signing marks a strategic step in strengthening Indonesia’s role in promoting peaceful conflict resolution through mediation.
“Indonesia will remain proactive, not only in the establishment of IOMed but also in advocating for mediation as a primary mechanism for resolving inter-state conflicts,” Deputy Minister Havas stated in his opening remarks at the Global Forum on International Mediation.
Indonesia’s participation in the IOMed Convention underscores the country’s active stance in international diplomacy that prioritizes dialogue and peaceful solutions.
The convention was signed by representatives of 33 countries, and attended by over 85 countries and regions, along with 20 international organizations, including the United Nations (UN).
The establishment of IOMed is seen as a milestone in the history of peaceful conflict resolution, reaffirming the importance of international mediation as a constructive and sustainable solution for cross-border disputes.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties with China
As part of the event, Deputy Minister Havas also held a bilateral meeting with China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying. Both leaders reaffirmed their full support for IOMed’s mission and discussed efforts to further advance bilateral relations between Indonesia and China in various strategic sectors.
By signing the IOMed Convention, Indonesia continues its diplomatic strategy to contribute to the creation of a peaceful, just, and sustainable international order.
