ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Singapore has once again been named the safest country in Southeast Asia and the world, according to The Global Safety Report 2025 released by U.S.-based analytics firm Gallup.

The report is based on a large-scale survey measuring public perceptions of safety among adults aged 15 and older across 144 countries and territories in 2024. Remarkably, 98% of Singaporeans said they feel safe walking alone at night—solidifying the city-state’s position as the world’s safest country for nearly two decades.

Singapore Maintains Its Global Safety Leadership

Since 2006, Singapore has consistently ranked first globally in Gallup’s global safety index. The nation’s reputation for order, strict law enforcement, and strong public trust in authorities are key factors behind its unmatched safety level.

“People in Singapore feel safe walking alone at any time—even at night,” the report noted, reaffirming the city-state’s image as a global benchmark for safety and security.

Indonesia Climbs to the Top 25 Globally

Indonesia recorded a notable improvement, with 83% of respondents saying they feel safe, ranking 25th globally and third in Southeast Asia after Vietnam.

This result highlights growing public confidence and social stability, reflecting progress in law enforcement, governance, and national resilience.

Malaysia and Myanmar Fall Behind

Interestingly, Malaysia, once considered among the safest in the region, dropped to 102nd globally, with only 58% of its citizens feeling safe. Myanmar, affected by political instability, ranked the lowest in ASEAN at 136th worldwide with 41%.

Global Safety Trends: Asia-Pacific and Western Europe Lead

Globally, the highest safety perceptions were recorded in Asia-Pacific, Western Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and North America. Gallup emphasized that public safety levels are closely linked to political stability, economic prosperity, and effective governance in each country. (AT Network)
