2 Indonesian Air Force Super Tucano Planes Crash During Training

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Military plane crashes in Indonesia have occurred again. This time, two EMB 314 Super Tucano aircraft from Air Squadron 21 Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base, Malang, crashed in the Pasuruan area, East Java, Thursday, November 16 2023. The aircraft were each filled with two personnel.

Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service, First Marshal Agung Sasongkojati, explained that the planes with tail numbers TT-3103 and TT-3111 initially took off from Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base at 10.51 WIB.

The aircraft carried out a Proficiency Formation Flight mission with the flight route Abd Saleh Air Base-Training Area-Abd Saleh Air Base. However, the two planes were declared to have lost contact a few minutes later.

“It was declared lost contact at 11.18 WIB,” said Agung in his statement, Thursday.

One plane was declared to have crashed after receiving information from the public. Meanwhile, another plane is still being searched.

It was said that the Abd Saleh Air Base rescue team had headed to the Watugede area, Pasuruan to search for the whereabouts of the plane which was still missing.

“The cause of the accident is still under investigation,” explained Agung.

The two planes crashed in two different locations. One is in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area and the other is on Perhutani land.

“One fell in the TNBTS area. The other was on a cliff in the Perhutani area,” he explained.

The aircraft with tail number TT-3311 was piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Pnb Sandhra Gunawan in the front seat and Colonel Adm Widiono in the back seat.

Meanwhile, the plane with tail number TT-3103 was piloted by Major Pnb Yuda A. Seta in the front seat and Colonel Pnb Subhan in the back seat.

As a result of this incident, the entire crew of two Super Tucano fighter planes died. The military funeral for the four victims will be held on Friday, November 17 2023. The Indonesian Air Force will hold a military release of the bodies.(AT Network)
