ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A total of 3,160 athletes from six Asian countries showcased their talents at the 7th Senkaido Open International Karate Championship, held at the Ciracas Sports Hall, East Jakarta, from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19, 2025. The prestigious tournament competed for the Trophy of the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia.

Participants came from Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, India, and Sri Lanka. Over the three-day competition, the event served as both a stage for mastery and a proving ground for Asia’s rising karate talents.

The Secretary-General of the Indonesian Karate Federation (PB Forki), Major General (Ret.) Sapriadi, expressed his appreciation for the championship’s successful organization.

He emphasized that tournaments like this are vital for testing and improving athletes’ real performance levels.

“After years of training, it’s through competition that we can truly see the results. This also provides a pathway for athletes to advance to higher levels, including joining the national training camp,” said Sapriadi on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Sapriadi added that this annual championship serves as a scouting platform for discovering new talent.

“When we find promising athletes, we can bring them to national and even international stages. It has been proven—several athletes who started from this tournament have gone on to compete in world championships,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Suparni, Chairperson of the 7th Senkaido Open International Championship Committee, expressed delight at the high enthusiasm from both participants and the public.

“We are thrilled to see thousands of athletes taking part. From this event, we hope to nurture high-quality athletes who will bring pride to Indonesia in both national and international arenas,” said Suparni.

She also expressed hopes that more countries would join in future editions of the championship, further raising the level of competition and international exposure for young karatekas.

One of the participants from Indonesia, Muhammad Revolusi, delivered an outstanding performance by winning a gold medal in his international debut in the kumite category.

“I’m very proud to win a gold medal for Indonesia. This is my first international karate championship, and I’m thrilled to start it with a victory,” said the junior high school student of Darul Quran, Tangerang City, Sunday, October 19, 2025.

He also expressed hope that Indonesia, as the host country, would continue to achieve outstanding success and strengthen its position as a center of karate excellence in Asia. (AT Network)
