ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Achmad Hafisz Thohir, called for concrete action from the world, especially ASEAN countries regarding serious problems involving the Rohingya ethnic group in Myanmar.

According to Hafisz, simply condemning is not enough, but real steps must be taken by the world and ASEAN.

He suggested several steps, including considering isolating Myanmar from international forums, imposing an arms and economic embargo, freezing passports and visas, and trying perpetrators of genocide at the International Court of Justice.

“The Myanmar regime no longer pays attention to them, and even carries out cruel actions,” said Hafisz in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday, December 31 2023.

According to Hafisz, this neglect further worsens the fate of the Rohingya ethnic group, because there is no responsibility from the authorities in Myanmar and their basic human rights continue to be ignored.

“The regime does not feel it has any obligations, and even acts arbitrarily by carrying out murders, repression and expulsions,” he added.

In this context, Hafisz emphasized the need for collective action from ASEAN countries to stop the violence and genocide that the Myanmar regime continues to carry out against the Rohingya ethnic group.

“In seeing the suffering and violence carried out by the Junta against the Rohingya ethnic group, we need to unite to take concrete steps so that violence against the Rohingya ethnic group stops,” he concluded. (AT Network)
