ASIATODAY.ID, MATARAM – A 27-year-old Brazilian climber, identified by the initials JDSP, who was reported missing after falling into a ravine on Mount Rinjani, has been found dead by a joint search and rescue team on Tuesday evening, June 24, 2025.

According to Muhamad Hariyadi, Head of the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, one team member managed to reach the victim’s location—known as the datum point—at around 6:00 PM local time.

“Initial examination confirmed that there were no signs of life,” Hariyadi stated in an official briefing.

The climber’s death was later confirmed by three additional SAR personnel who followed to the site. The body was immediately wrapped in preparation for evacuation from the Last Known Position (LKP)—the final location where the victim had been seen before falling.

Rescue Operation Hindered by Weather

Hariyadi further explained that seven SAR personnel conducted a flying camp—staying overnight near the location to facilitate the evacuation. Three members were positioned at the second anchor point (400 meters deep), while four remained at the victim’s side at a depth of 600 meters.

However, the operation was postponed due to poor weather conditions and extremely low visibility.

“The evacuation will resume this morning, Wednesday (June 25), with the body first lifted to the surface, then carried down along the trekking route to Sembalun Base Camp,” he added.

Once the body arrives at Sembalun Base Camp, it will be airlifted by helicopter to Bhayangkara Police Hospital in West Nusa Tenggara for further handling.

“All SAR team members are hopeful that today’s evacuation will proceed smoothly and safely as planned,” Hariyadi concluded. (AT Network)
