ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Canadian Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, announced nearly US$30 million in aid to support Indonesia’s development efforts, particularly aimed at improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups, especially women and disadvantaged communities.
“This funding will empower grassroots organizations and women’s movements, equipping activists with the resources and skills to advocate for their rights, including gender equality, and improve health outcomes for marginalized groups, particularly women and girls,” he said in a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, February 14, 2025.
Hussen also unveiled an additional contribution of US$10.7 million to the ASEAN-Canada Plan of Action Trust Fund, further strengthening regional engagement with ASEAN and advancing crucial trade negotiations.
“Canada remains committed to being a reliable strategic partner to Indonesia and ASEAN, supporting sustainable, inclusive economic growth for the benefit of the people,” he added.
Since 2000, Canada has provided over one billion dollars in development assistance to Indonesia and nearly US$4.4 billion to ASEAN nations. These contributions have fostered impressive economic growth, with Indonesia now ranking as Canada’s third-largest bilateral trading partner in the ASEAN region, with two-way trade exceeding US$5 billion in 2024.
