ASIATODAY.ID, BEIJING – China welcomes and congratulates Indonesia on officially becoming a full member of BRICS.

Brazil, as chairman of BRICS this year, released a statement announcing that Indonesia had become a full member of BRICS, which received widespread attention from the international community.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Indonesia, as a large developing country and an important power in the Global South, highly appreciates the BRICS spirit and takes an active part in “BRICS Plus” cooperation.

According to the spokesperson, Indonesia’s official entry into BRICS is in accordance with the common interests of BRICS member countries and the Global South.

He added that “we believe Indonesia will make an active contribution to the development of BRICS.”

The spokesperson said that BRICS is the main platform for promoting solidarity and cooperation between Global South countries.

Apart from that, BRICS is also the main force driving reform of the global governance system, and BRICS countries are always committed to multilateralism, equality and justice, and shared development.

The addition of BRICS’ newest members follows the historical trend of the collective rise of the Global South.

China is ready to work with Indonesia and other BRICS members to jointly build a more comprehensive, close, practical and inclusive partnership, advance the development of greater and high-quality BRICS cooperation, and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for humanity, the spokesperson added.
