ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has confirmed the arrest of six Indonesian nationals by Singaporean authorities after they were found to have illegally entered Singapore via a maritime route.
According to MoFA’s Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, the incident occurred in the early hours of December 21, 2025, when the Singapore Police Coast Guard detected a wooden boat in waters off Tanah Merah, eastern Singapore.
“Based on preliminary information, Singapore’s Police Coast Guard secured six Indonesian men aged between 23 and 29,” said MoFA spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela in a written statement on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Indonesian Embassy Seeks Clarification
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore, is currently coordinating closely with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to obtain official details regarding the identities, legal status, and charges facing the detained Indonesians.
The ministry stated that further updates would be provided once formal information is received from Singaporean authorities.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore is still conducting further verification, including confirmation of charges and follow-up legal procedures in accordance with Singaporean law,” MoFA’s Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens said.
Strict Immigration Laws
Singapore is known for its strict immigration and border enforcement, with illegal entry punishable by imprisonment, heavy fines, and deportation. The case has once again highlighted the risks faced by Indonesian nationals who attempt to enter Singapore through unauthorized maritime routes, often driven by economic motives or job-seeking efforts.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry urged its citizens to comply with immigration laws of destination countries and warned against using illegal channels that could endanger both personal safety and legal standing abroad. (AT Network)
