ASIATODAY.ID, PARIS – The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto held a bilateral meeting with Eramet CEO, Christel Bories, on March 3, 2025 at the Indonesian Embassy in Paris. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Airlangga’s visit and meeting with the OECD Secretary General and Ambassadors of OECD Member Countries in Paris.
Eramet is one of the investors in the mining and downstream industry sectors, especially nickel.
Eramet has several times conveyed its commitment to the Indonesian Government to support industrial downstreaming through investment in the development of green manufacturing facilities to produce Electric Vehicle batteries, especially in Weda Bay, Central Halmahera.
The Indonesian Government welcomed the proposal to support the acceleration of the energy transition in Indonesia.
“To guarantee the commitment to the green industry, the location of the industry in question can later be placed close to hydro energy sources to ensure the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable energy,” said Airlangga.
Airlangga’s meeting with the Eramet CEO this time discussed the follow-up to Eramet’s investment plan.
Eramet CEO Christel Bories said that currently Eramet still needs information on the availability of raw materials needed for production in Indonesia.
As a follow-up, Airlangga and CEO Christel Bories agreed on the need to prepare a roadmap and estimate production capacity. This will be taken into consideration by the Indonesian Government in providing support to Eramet as an effort to develop the nickel ecosystem in Indonesia.
In this bilateral meeting, Eramet expressed its desire to further invest in Indonesia with local partners in the critical minerals sector. Eramet also wants to seek investment opportunities, especially in downstream, with the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara Sovereign Fund).
Eramet also expressed its support for accelerating the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EUCEPA) negotiations with the European Commission, in order to increase investment and trade between Indonesia and the European Union, especially with France.
In closing, Airlangga reiterated that the joint commitment between Indonesia and Eramet can build a strong partnership in accelerating Indonesia’s green industrial transformation and supporting the global supply chain.
“The partnership between Indonesia and Eramet has great potential to drive innovation, strengthen the nickel and electric vehicle battery industries, and provide long-term benefits for both parties,” said Airlangga. (AT Network)
