ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government through the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) together with the Australian government launched a funding assistance scheme for new research related to sustainable marine biodiversity.
Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko said that his party opened joint funding with global funding institutions to support research activities.
“This research funding scheme will last for the next five years,” he said in Jakarta, Friday, June 21 2024.
This educational assistance program opens up opportunities for Indonesia and Australia to collaborate on marine biodiversity, including those related to health, food and energy.
Applications are open to various organizations in Indonesia and Australia including universities, research organizations, government organizations, non-government organizations and the private sector.
“The research priority in this program is marine biodiversity because Indonesia and Australia share the sea,” said Handoko.
This research funding program is not only aimed at increasing the value of research and innovation funding allocations, but also as an effort to increase collaboration and interaction between Indonesian researchers and partners in various parts of the world.
Science, research and innovation are universal commodities and require cross-border interaction to ensure increased capacity and competence in competing globally.
The funding scheme, called Joint Call BRIN-KONEKSI, aims to strengthen strategic relations between Australia and Indonesia through partnerships between research and innovation sector institutions in both countries.
The partnership program is expected to produce knowledge-based development solutions that contribute to inclusive and sustainable policies and technology.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, said Australia and Indonesia continue to strengthen people-to-people ties and institutional partnerships for inclusive, innovative and sustainable development.
“I hope there will be closer ties between research in Australia and Indonesia at the academic level and also for doctoral students,” said Penny.
