ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defense cooperation, particularly in promoting stability and security across the Asian region.
This commitment was underscored during a courtesy meeting between the Director General of Defense Strategy of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Major General Agus Widodo, and the Deputy Director General of the Defense Plans and Policy Department (J-5) of the Japan Joint Staff, Major General Ito Yuichiro, held at the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
The visit was part of a collaborative program facilitated by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and fostering strategic defense cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.
In his remarks, Major General Agus Widodo extended a warm welcome to Major General Ito Yuichiro and the SPF delegation for the 2025 Program.
He also expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation for their continued commitment to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening defense cooperation and exchanges throughout the Asian region.
“Indonesia highly values SPF’s efforts in promoting dialogue and exchange in the defense sector. We hope that this program will continue to expand by involving more participants across various levels,” said Agus Widodo.
The Director General further affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to serve as an active partner in developing future cooperation programs, expressing hope that the SPF 2025 activities will be successful and make a tangible contribution to strengthening the defense partnership between the two nations.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, including the Head of the Center for Defense Equipment and Facilities, the Secretary of the Directorate General of Defense Potential, and the Director of Strategic Policy. (AT Network)
