“Our main agenda is how we can reform various multilateral organizations to increase the effectiveness of multilateral organizations in maintaining world peace,” explained Pahala in his statement after the meeting.

Apart from that, Pahala said that during the meeting, President Jokowi also emphasized the efforts of each party to ensure that the people in Gaza could receive appropriate assistance.

“Then the second thing is to ensure that there is sufficient aid, that it can enter the area or territory in Gaza, so that the people there can actually get appropriate aid,” he said.

“Then the third is to stop the existing war there or what is commonly known as ceasefire,” he continued.

The next thing discussed at the meeting was how MIKTA could start a political process to produce a long-term solution so that Palestine could obtain its rights as an independent state.

“Then the fourth is how of course we can start a political process to achieve a solution in Gaza and also in other areas in Palestine to ensure that a long-term solution is obtained regarding how the Palestinian state can truly obtain its rights as an independent state, ” he concluded.

Apart from that, Pahala revealed that apart from discussing the conditions occurring in Palestine, the meeting also discussed economic cooperation.

Pahala said that as an organization consisting of various middle power countries, MIKTA is considered to have quite large economic strength.

“Of course, how can we build better cooperation, especially one that is more inclusive, while we also see how we are taking sides with global south countries to be able to build industry in terms of building downstream of the economic powers they have,” he said.

Regarding climate change, President Jokowi also discussed MIKTA’s concrete efforts to encourage a fairer energy transition and help countries in the global south to develop new, renewable energy.

“How can MIKTA encourage concrete climate action to encourage a fairer energy transition, so that it will really help countries in the global south to be able to develop new and renewable energy as an answer to the existing challenges of climate change? ,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that the 9th MIKTA Speakers’ Consultation meeting will start Monday, November 20 2023.

Puan said that the meeting would discuss parliamentary support for the policies carried out by the governments of each MIKTA country.

“So what has been done by the government, we will also implement it through the parliament in MIKTA,” he said. (AT Network)
