ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The governments of Indonesia and the United Kingdom have agreed to establish a new collaboration in the field of cybersecurity.
This initiative forms part of a joint effort to safeguard an increasingly complex digital landscape while ensuring the national digital transformation foundation remains resilient.
“Cybersecurity is the cornerstone of our digital sovereignty and economic stability,” Deputy Minister for Digital and Information Technology Nezar Patria stated during his meeting with the UK Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Matthew Downing at the Ministry of Digital and Information Technology office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Strategic partnerships with countries that possess advanced expertise and experience in the digital sector are essential for Indonesia to proactively address cybersecurity threats.
“The UK’s experience is invaluable. We hope this partnership will strengthen national digital security and resilience,” he added.
Reflecting on the cyberattack against Indonesia’s Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) in 2024, Wamen Nezar emphasized that all digital infrastructures must adhere to high cybersecurity standards.
The government is also drafting the Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill to ensure that all critical digital infrastructures, both public and private, adopt robust cybersecurity systems.
UK Deputy Ambassador Matthew Downing welcomed the strategic partnership, highlighting that cyber threats present both challenges and opportunities for bilateral collaboration.
“Strengthening cyber resilience is not just a technical priority—it is a strategic imperative for both countries. This also reinforces the long-standing strategic partnership between the UK and Indonesia,” Deputy Ambassador Downing said.
He further affirmed that the UK is ready to support Indonesia’s digital transformation through bilateral cooperation in knowledge exchange, capacity building, and technology partnerships. (AT Network)
