ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia calls on Israel to comply with the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stop the genocide in Gaza, Palestine.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Indonesia had closely followed the ICJ’s decision regarding the situation in Gaza.
“Even though the ICJ decision has not fulfilled the expectations of many parties regarding the importance of ending Israeli military action, this decision is still an important development for the enforcement of international law,” said the official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published via account X, Saturday, January 27 2024.
That is why the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Israel is obliged to comply with this decision.
Previously, the ICJ decided that Israel must take action to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Friday, January 26 2024 local time. In her decision, ICJ Chair Joan Donoghue said that her party was very concerned about the loss of life in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli military attack which is still ongoing.
Thus, the ICJ decided that Israel must ensure that its forces do not commit genocide and take a number of steps to improve the humanitarian situation. Apart from that, the ICJ also asked Israel to report to the ICJ within one month about what they are doing to uphold the results of the trial decision.
The UN’s top court did not order a ceasefire, but granted a number of emergency measures requested by South Africa as it hears a case accusing Israel of genocide.
The ICJ recognizes the right of Palestinian citizens in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide. (AT Network)
