ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesia Coast Guard (Bakamla) was involved in a confrontation with the China Coast Guard-5402 (CCG – 5402) which entered Indonesia’s jurisdiction in the North Natuna Sea on Friday, October 25, 2024.
Bakamla must take firm steps to expel the China Coast Guard because it entered the North Natuna Sea illegally.
“The CCG-5402 ship claimed to be carrying out a patrol in China’s jurisdiction. This was known from the radio communication between CCG – 5402 and KN Pulau Dana – 323 which continued to approach and shadow it,” said Bakamla’s Young Expert Public Relations Officer, Captain Bakamla Yuhanes Antara in a Bakamla press release in Jakarta, Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Seeing this action, the State Ship (KN) Pulau Dana-323 also tried to approach the Chinese ship. The Chinese ship also gave a warning not to approach.
However, the appeal was ignored by Bakamla who precisely shadowed the Chinese ship with the State Ship (KN) Pulau Dana-323.
Bakamla continued to approach the ship to leave the area that had become Indonesian territory.
“Based on UNCLOS 1982, Indonesia’s jurisdiction, especially the Indonesian Continental Shelf in the North Natuna Sea, has received international recognition, where Indonesia has sovereign rights to exploit and explore natural resources in the area without being disturbed by any country,” he explained.
After making various efforts, the China Coast Guard finally left the North Natuna Sea area.
“Bakamla will continue to show its commitment to maintaining security and enforcing the law in Indonesian waters and Indonesian jurisdiction,” said Yuhanes. (AT Network)
