ASIATODAY.ID, MUGGIANO – Indonesia has taken a significant step in strengthening its maritime defense by officially adding a new warship to its naval fleet.
The vessel, KRI Brawijaya-320, was handed over during an official ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Muggiano, Italy, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
The ceremony was led by Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral Muhammad Ali, representing Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. The event also included the commissioning of the vessel and the appointment of its first commanding officer, Colonel (Navy) John David Nalasakti Sondakh.
The KRI Brawijaya-320 is part of the national maritime strategy known as the Perisai Trisula Nusantara (Nusantara Trident Shield), which aims to modernize and reinforce Indonesia’s naval posture. Equipped with cutting-edge sensors, modern weapon systems, and fully integrated digital technology, the ship is designed to counter both conventional and complex multidimensional threats at sea.
“The official handover of KRI Brawijaya-320 symbolizes Indonesia’s progress, readiness, and national pride. This ship is not only a projection of power but also a beacon of hope for peace and international cooperation,” said Defense Minister Sjafrie in a statement delivered by Admiral Ali.
Assigned to the Escort Ship Squadron of the Second Fleet Command (Koarmada II), the warship will play a strategic role in enhancing the combat capabilities of the Indonesian Navy. Its deployment is part of a broader effort to build a professional, modern, and technologically advanced naval force capable of safeguarding Indonesia’s vast maritime domain.
With the addition of KRI Brawijaya-320, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to building a high-tech maritime defense force and enhancing its strategic presence in the dynamic Indo-Pacific region. (AT Network)
