ASIATODAY.ID, BANTEN — Indonesia has once again demonstrated its leadership in driving sustainable energy transition across Southeast Asia.
Through the 2nd Indonesia–Mekong Basin Connect 2025: Energy Security Cooperation in the Region, held on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, Indonesia invited countries in the Mekong region to strengthen collaboration in developing renewable energy and advancing green financing through carbon credits.
“Energy transition cannot be achieved alone. We must work together to expand financing access, enhance technology sharing, and ensure the benefits are felt across the region,” said Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Pahala Mansury Havas, in his remarks.
Vice Minister Havas emphasized that energy transition is one of Indonesia’s top national priorities and a shared regional agenda. One of Indonesia’s proposed initiatives is the establishment of a regional solar panel development hub, which aims to accelerate clean energy growth across Southeast Asia.
The forum gathered representatives from Mekong region countries — Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia — alongside international organizations and development partners.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EBTKE), Eniya Listiani Dewi, highlighted that cooperation with Mekong countries presents vast opportunities for experience exchange, technology transfer, and mutually beneficial investment.
“We see tremendous opportunities to strengthen collaboration through shared experiences, technology exchange, and mutually beneficial investments,” Eniya stated.
The panel discussion featured speakers from the Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC). Moderated by Agustaviano Sofjan, former Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City (2021–2024), the session explored “The Future of Energy Security Cooperation in Southeast Asia.”
In addition, the forum hosted a Business Talk on Energy Security, connecting key stakeholders from the Mekong region and Indonesia to explore practical cooperation opportunities. Participants included Électricité du Laos, PT Indo Tambangraya Megah (Banpu Group, Thailand), CT Group (Vietnam), Maxpower Group (Myanmar), as well as representatives from Cambodia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Indonesian Petroleum Association.
The event concluded with a business matching session, enabling Indonesian and Mekong region business leaders to discuss potential investments and partnerships in sustainable energy projects.
Through this forum, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation focused on energy security, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth, positioning Southeast Asia as a future hub for global clean energy development. (AT Network)
