ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia and the Russian Federation have agreed to expand their strategic partnership in the maritime and logistics sectors.
The commitment was discussed during a meeting between Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Chairman of the Maritime Council of the Russian Federation and Presidential Advisor Nikolai Patrushev in Jakarta on Friday, November 7, 2025.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in blue economy development, maritime connectivity, logistics infrastructure, and shipbuilding technology transfer.
“Developing the maritime and logistics sectors is one of Indonesia’s national priorities to boost economic growth and enhance inter-regional connectivity,” said Minister Airlangga.
He emphasized that the Indonesian government continues to strengthen maritime infrastructure and open cooperation with global partners, including Russia, to enhance national maritime self-reliance and competitiveness.
Russia Offers Technology Transfer and Maritime Education Cooperation
Chairman Nikolai Patrushev expressed Russia’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Indonesia in maritime logistics, shipbuilding technology, and human resource training.
“The Russian government is exploring opportunities for educational and training collaboration with leading maritime institutions in St. Petersburg, particularly in marine engineering, to help develop Indonesia’s maritime human resources,” Patrushev explained.
Russia also presented several strategic initiatives to develop international shipping routes and global maritime connectivity, expressing full support for Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its marine industries and supporting sectors.
Aligning with President Prabowo’s National Priorities
Minister Airlangga welcomed the proposals and highlighted the importance of strengthening academic and research collaboration between technical universities in Russia and Indonesia. This initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, which places human capital development and quality education at the core of national development.
“Beyond sending students abroad, we aim to foster university-to-university cooperation between Russian and Indonesian engineering institutions. This will broaden opportunities for students to learn, innovate, and advance national technological capacity,” Airlangga said.
He further stated that the government will follow up on all strategic cooperation proposals discussed in the meeting with relevant ministries and agencies before reporting the outcomes directly to President Prabowo Subianto. (AT Network)
