ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia is strengthening its global research diplomacy through strategic partnerships with Singapore and Uzbekistan. These collaborations mark an important step toward building a competitive international research and innovation ecosystem.
BRIN and Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research and innovation cooperation at the BJ Habibie Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
BRIN Chair Laksana Tri Handoko stated that this MoU represents a new chapter in the long-standing scientific collaboration between the two nations.
“This agreement not only strengthens our existing cooperation but also opens doors for exploring new research topics and future joint programs,” he said.
Meanwhile, NRF Chief Executive Officer John Lim noted that the partnership stems from discussions held during the Research and Innovation Ministerial Meeting at the G20 forum.
“This MoU reflects our shared commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation, building on the strong relationship between Indonesia and Singapore. It will encourage more joint research initiatives and collaborative funding programs,” Lim said.
Previous cooperation between BRIN and NRF has produced significant achievements, including a deep-sea biodiversity expedition in the Java Sea and marine research with OceanX in 2023.
In addition to Singapore, BRIN also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Agency for Innovative Development (AID) of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The signing ceremony took place at the BJ Habibie Building, Jakarta, on Monday, November 3, 2025, focusing on strengthening innovation, scientific publications, and developing an open science ecosystem between the two countries.
BRIN Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization R. Hendrian emphasized that this collaboration is a concrete step to expand Indonesia’s international research network.
“BRIN is committed to building an open, inclusive, and globally competitive research ecosystem. Through this partnership with Uzbekistan, we aim to enhance the quality of scientific publications, develop research repositories, and promote knowledge exchange to support international scientific openness,” he explained.
Dr. Asror Norov, Acting Director of AID Uzbekistan, expressed his appreciation for BRIN’s commitment to fostering science and innovation-driven cooperation.
“This collaboration is an important step in strengthening dialogue and openness in science between nations. Indonesia and Uzbekistan have great potential to grow together through joint research, innovation, and knowledge exchange,” he said.
Advancing Indonesia’s Role in Global Research Diplomacy
The partnerships with Singapore and Uzbekistan highlight BRIN’s determination to reinforce Indonesia’s position in global research diplomacy.
These initiatives open opportunities for cross-border studies in key areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, energy, environment, and agriculture.
Through these collaborations, BRIN reaffirms its commitment to making Indonesia an active, innovative, and globally recognized partner in advancing science, technology, and innovation. (AT Network)
