ASIATODAY.ID, BANGKOK – Indonesia fully supports the sustainability of the digital sector in the ASEAN region in the Digital Bangkok declaration. This was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, at the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) in Bangkok, Thailand.
During the meeting, Meutya said that the key to success in ASEAN’s digital transformation is regional collaboration. She also expressed support for equal distribution and improvement of quality internet access throughout the region.
“Indonesia fully supports the steps in the Bangkok Digital Declaration which are in line with our vision to strengthen digital inclusion and encourage technological innovation. The benefits of digital transformation must be felt by all levels of society, including those in remote areas,” said Meutya, Thursday, January 16 2025.
The declaration includes a number of strategic steps by strengthening regional cooperation to anticipate digital crime. In addition, the Digital Bangkok declaration also highlights the development of artificial intelligence (AI) governance.
Meutya explained that Indonesia has developed the Indonesia Digital Vision (IDV) 2045 program. This is Indonesia’s initiative to expand connectivity, increase digital literacy and develop digital technology talent in Indonesia.
She explained that this initiative supports the vision of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and strengthens ASEAN’s role as the center of the world’s digital economy. This is because the ASEAN digital economic sector is projected to reach the value of trillions of US dollars by 2030.
Apart from being a foundation for ASEAN’s digital future, the declaration also aims to strengthen cooperation between countries in the region. As one of the largest digital economies in ASEAN, Indonesia plays an active role in encouraging inclusive and sustainable digital transformation.
On that occasion, apart from holding the Bangkok digital declaration meeting, Meutya also held bilateral meetings with a number of other Ministers. Like one of them, Meutya held a meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Digital and Information Development, Josephine Teo. They discussed strategic collaborations, one of which discussed child protection policies in the digital world. (AT Network)
