ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will lead the Indonesian delegation at the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne.
Jokowi departed for Australia from the Indonesian Air Force Air Field, Halim Perdanakusuma on Monday, March 4 2024. The ASEAN-Australia Summit will be held on March 4-6 2024. The conference will also commemorate 50 years of relations between the Southeast Asian Bloc and Australia.
Jokowi said he would use this forum to strengthen economic integration, energy transition and digital transformation.
“As well as the progress of the collaborative paradigm and consistent enforcement of international law, including the Palestinian issue,” said Jokowi before leaving.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi previously said the ASEAN-Australia Summit would consist of two sessions. One of the sessions called ‘retreat’ will specifically discuss geopolitical issues. Another session will discuss priority cooperation that will be carried out by Australia with ASEAN.
“The priority cooperation that Australia will carry out with ASEAN, including in terms of Indonesia’s interests, issues related to the energy transition will be important,” said Retno.
Meanwhile, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said her country’s partnership with ASEAN had developed into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Penny said geographical proximity strengthens Australia and ASEAN’s partnership.
