ASIATODAY.ID, HANOI – The partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam is now entering a new era. This was marked when the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with the President of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong, on Friday, January 12 2024, at the Presidential Palace, Hanoi, Vietnam.
In a joint press statement, President Jokowi said that at the meeting Indonesia and Vietnam agreed on a number of collaborations, one of which was increasing new trade targets.
In the investment sector, President Jokowi welcomed the increase in investment between the two countries, large companies and Indonesian unicorns which have invested significantly in Vietnam.
“I am sure they will be given convenience and good protection, and I encourage Vietnamese companies to strengthen their investments in Indonesia,” said President Jokowi.
Furthermore, President Jokowi said that Indonesia and Vietnam had agreed to strengthen food security cooperation between the two countries, both in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.
“We agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, where the signing of the MoU on fisheries cooperation is a big momentum to encourage collaboration and investment in this field,” said President Jokowi.
Apart from that, President Jokowi welcomed cooperation in technology, information and communication to encourage the progress of the digital industry of the two countries.
President Jokowi said that Indonesia and Vietnam had agreed on cooperation in the field of the electric car and battery ecosystem, as well as the energy transition.
“I welcome VinFast’s investment commitment to build an electric car and battery ecosystem in Indonesia. “We also agreed to advance cooperation in the fields of energy transition and the digital economy to encourage prosperity for the people and the region,” he said.
Furthermore, President Jokowi said that Indonesia and Vietnam are committed to continuing to maintain regional economic stability and growth.
“Indonesia and Vietnam agreed to continue to maintain regional economic stability and growth through concrete implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and support for Laos’ chairmanship in ASEAN,” said President Jokowi. (AT Network)
