ASIATODAY.ID, BALI – Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and Guma signed a Joint Study Agreement (JSA) for gas to power development in the South Africa region.

The signing took place in the middle of the Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) event in Nusa Dua Bali on Monday, September 2 2024 by the Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, John Anis and the Executive Chairman of Guma, Robert Gumede.

This collaboration aims to carry out in-depth and joint studies in efforts to develop gas to power in the Southern Africa region. This step is also part of Pertamina NRE’s commitment to carry out global expansion, especially in the gas to power sector as an initial medium for the energy transition as well as efforts to continue to reduce the rate of carbon emissions.

This collaboration is a concrete form of “south-south” cooperation, which is the spirit of the Indonesia – Africa Forum initiated by the Indonesian government, starting with the state visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Africa in August 2023 to explore the potential for collaboration between Indonesia and Africa. Afterwards, on November 17 2023, Pertamina signed its first agreement with Guma.

Pertamina NRE’s success in completing and operating the Java-1 Steam Gas Power Plant mega project represents a large amount of capital from Pertamina NRE so that it is trusted by global partners to develop similar technology. The Jawa-1 Steam Gas Power Plant is even the largest Steam Gas Power Plant in Southeast Asia currently available with the most advanced combined cycle technology.

PT Pertamina (Persero) Vice President Corporate Communication Fadjar Djoko Santoso said, Pertamina is encouraging the expansion of subholding in the international market. Through expansion, it is hoped that subholding’s work will have a positive impact on operations and achieve company goals.

“Establishing a partnership will encourage the improvement of Pertamina NRE’s expertise and experience in the clean energy industry on a global scale,” explained Fadjar.

As part of the Pertamina Group, Pertamina NRE is always committed to carrying out clean energy initiatives as part of implementing environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects as well as supporting sustainable development goals.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition sector, is committed to supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emission target by continuing to encourage programs that have a direct impact on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of these efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) in all Pertamina business lines and operations. (AT Network)
