ASIATODAY.ID, KUALA LUMPUR — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on member countries of the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) mechanism to strengthen practical and results-oriented cooperation in the face of escalating global economic and geopolitical turbulence.

Speaking at the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), on October 27, 2025, President Prabowo underscored that the region’s resilience depends on solid regional integration, constructive competition, and strengthened financial cooperation.

“ASEAN Plus Three must not merely be a forum for dialogue — it must be a platform for action. We need to work together to ensure food security, financial stability, and long-term growth,” said President Prabowo.

Strengthening Economic Resilience and Regional Integration

President Prabowo emphasized that Asia’s current growth momentum faces challenges from supply chain disruptions, climate change, and shifting trade dynamics.

“For Indonesia, these are not distant threats — they are realities that affect our farmers, industries, and communities,” he said.

He called for the full implementation of the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Work Plan (2023–2027) to promote regional stability and prosperity.

Prabowo also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM) — a regional financial safety net that provides liquidity support during crises — and to enhancing the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) to bolster food security and crisis preparedness.

“Our people must not suffer from hunger or instability caused by external shocks. Regional cooperation must deliver tangible benefits to all,” he added.

Ensuring Food and Energy Security

President Prabowo highlighted that food and energy security are now strategic priorities for ASEAN Plus Three amid global uncertainty.

He urged stronger joint investments in sustainable agriculture, green energy, and clean technology, and called on developed partners in the APT framework — China, Japan, and South Korea — to share technology and best practices to accelerate the region’s green transformation.

“Energy transition should not become a burden for developing countries. It must be a bridge toward shared prosperity,” Prabowo asserted.

He emphasized the importance of inclusive financing mechanisms to help ASEAN countries meet climate and energy goals without undermining growth.

Navigating Global Uncertainty with Unity

In a strong message on leadership, President Prabowo warned that fragmentation and rivalry among major powers have deepened the risks of instability.

“If ASEAN Plus Three remains divided or reactive, we will be left behind by global change. We must stand as a united and proactive force in shaping the future of Asia,” he declared.

He called for a renewed spirit of solidarity, trust, and mutual respect among the 13 member states, emphasizing that Asia’s long-term peace depends on regional unity rather than competition.

“Our cooperation must be guided by mutual benefit — not by rivalry. The world is changing fast, but together, we can remain a pillar of stability and growth,” said Prabowo. (AT Network)
