ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto found that 17,304 containers were stuck at Tanjung Priok Port due to import regulations. This finding was made when Airlangga together with Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga reviewed the goods release process at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta on Saturday, May 18 2024.

Airlangga explained that tens of thousands of containers of goods had not been able to submit import documents and had not yet been issued Import Approvals and Technical Considerations.

For this reason, the government has now decided to issue a new regulation, namely Minister of Trade Regulation Number 8/2024 to allow for relaxation of imports.

“To resolve the issue of import licensing, Minister of Trade Regulation number 8 of 2024 has been issued. Today it is hoped that the piling up of containers can be resolved immediately,” said Airlangga.

In the regulation, which will be implemented starting May 17 2024, a number of relaxations in import licensing are regulated for seven groups of goods that were previously subject to import restrictions, such as electronics, footwear, apparel, accessories, cosmetics and household supplies, bags and valves.

For this reason, expenditure was carried out for several commodity groups that have met the relaxation provisions in the form of steel, textile, bag and electronic products at Priok Port today. A number of commodities were imported by 10 companies and have arrived at the port since May 10 2024.

Furthermore, Airlangga also reminded that relevant institutions must also support efforts to accelerate the resolution of import licensing problems. This is done by encouraging the acceleration of the issuance of Import Approvals and the acceleration of the completion of Technical Considerations.

“I also ask all Port and Customs officials at the port, Head of the Main Service Office, Director of Industrial Services Sucofindo, Indonesian Surveyors, JICT Leaders to work like Saturday, Sunday, holiday included ships so that all 24 hour work releases 17 thousand to “This item is finished,” said Airlangga.

Meanwhile, Sri Mulyani stated that Customs and Excise welcomed the issuance of Minister of Trade Regulation number 8/2024 which relaxes a number of requirements for importing goods.

“The requirements have changed to just a Surveyor’s Report to release the container,” explained Sri Mulyani on the same occasion. (ATN)
