ASIATODAY.ID, NORTH HALMAHERA – The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team found the Bell 429 PK WSW helicopter belonging to the company PT Weda Bay Nickel in a destroyed condition.
Meanwhile, the pilot, co-pilot and passengers were found dead in the helicopter.
The helicopter lost contact on Tuesday, February 20 2024 and fell in the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) forest area. The helicopter was destroyed after crashing into trees. The bodies of the pilot, co-pilot and one passenger were found around the helicopter.
Meanwhile, another passenger was trapped in the trees, making it difficult for the SAR Team to evacuate. The SAR team then took the three victims’ bodies using the company’s helicopter to the site and took them to hospital.
“The Bell 429 PK WSW helicopter fell from a height of 200 meters and was 16 kilometers from the site. The cause of the incident is not yet known and investigations are still ongoing,” said Head of the Ternate SAR Agency, Fatur Rahman. (ATN)
