ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Raffles Christian School Pondok Indah Campus successfully hosted its first-ever Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year) Celebration, marking a historic milestone in the school’s 20-year history. The event, held on Saturday, 7 February 2026, at BRANZ Simatupang Apartment, was met with enthusiastic participation, welcoming more than 200 attendees from diverse community backgrounds.
This Seollal celebration reflects Raffles Christian School’s strong commitment to embracing cultural diversity and fostering community engagement. With students representing 14 different nationalities, the majority coming from Japanese and South Korean families, the school organized this event as a meaningful cross-cultural learning experience—not only for students, but also for the wider public.
The celebration was filled with vibrant cultural performances and hands-on activities that could be enjoyed by the entire family. Both the indoor and outdoor areas of BRANZ Simatupang Apartment were utilized to create an immersive and interactive cultural atmosphere.
A wide range of activities enlivened the event, including:
• Samulnori performance, a traditional Korean percussion ensemble symbolizing harmony with nature
• Traditional games such as Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed, Biseokchigi, and Sabangchigi
• Creative activities including Mini Taegukgi crafts, Korean mask coloring, and kite making
• Korean food stalls, presented in collaboration with Korean vendors and partners, offering authentic cuisine

“Through this Seollal celebration, we aimed to provide students and the community with opportunities to learn directly from the cultures that surround them. Appreciation of diversity is a vital part of character education and global citizenship,” said Jun Batilles, Dean of Raffles Christian School.
Echoing this sentiment, Manivasugen, Marketing and Business Development at Raffles Christian School, added, “With a diverse community—particularly families from Korea and Japan—this event serves as a bridge to strengthen cross-cultural understanding and foster a more inclusive community.”
The Seollal celebration was organized in collaboration with BRANZ Simatupang Apartment and supported by various Korean vendors and partners, all of whom contributed to delivering an authentic and memorable cultural experience.
The success of this inaugural Seollal celebration is expected to pave the way for similar cultural initiatives in the future, as part of the school’s ongoing commitment to holistic, globally minded education.
