ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has granted a Conditional Approval (CA) to TotalEnergies and RGE to supply 1.0 gigawatt (GW) of Photovoltaic (PV) solar power from Indonesia to Singapore through its joint venture, Singa Renewables Pte Ltd (Lion).

“This approval marks an important step to strengthen regional energy cooperation and advance renewable energy initiatives in Southeast Asia,” said Singapore’s Minister of Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng when announcing the conditional approval at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024 in Jakarta, Thursday, September 5, 2024.

The project will utilize solar power from Indonesia to produce clean energy that will be supplied to Singapore and contribute to achieving sustainability goals.

In addition, Singapore will also supply solar PV power for domestic use at a green industrial complex in Riau Province, Indonesia.

This step supports the national plan to increase the use of renewable energy from 13 percent in 2023 to 31 percent in 2050 and supports the transition to net zero emissions by 2060.

In the same place, Senior Vice President Renewables at TotalEnergies Olivier Jouny said that the project was in line with TotalEnergies’ integrated energy strategy which aims to provide clean and reliable electric power.

Olivier said that this was done through a combination of solar power and battery storage systems for corporate customers through an electricity purchase agreement scheme.

“TotalEnergies is very pleased to be able to partner with RGE and contribute to the energy transition goals in Singapore and Indonesia,” said Olivier.

Meanwhile, Global Head of Renewable Energy RGE William Goh assessed that the project helped encourage investment growth, created jobs and contributed to the development of the solar power supply chain in Indonesia.

“Together with TotalEnergies, we offer a solution that benefits Indonesia and Singapore by supplying environmentally friendly electricity to both countries to reduce carbon emissions and achieve clean energy transition goals,” said William.

With this commitment, continued William, TotalEnergies and RGE will work together to further utilize global expertise in large-scale renewable energy projects, RGE’s long experience in Indonesia and Singapore and the financial strength of both organizations.

“By receiving Conditional Approval from EMA, TotalEnergies and RGE will accelerate the development of this project and work to achieve success in providing environmentally friendly electricity in Indonesia and Singapore,” said William. (ATN)
