ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will become the busiest airport in Southeast Asia in April 2024 based on data from OAG Aviation Worldwide Limited, a travel intelligence agency based in London, England.
PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), noted that the flight seat capacity at the airport in April 2024 reached 3.34 million seats, the highest compared to other airports in the Southeast Asia region.
AP II Vice President for Corporate Communication, Cin Asmoro, said that the 2024 Eid transportation which will take place from April 3 to 18 will also support Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as the busiest airport in Southeast Asia.
“The 16-day Eid transport period has pushed Soekarno-Hatta Airport to become the busiest airport in Southeast Asia. With good cooperation between AP II, airlines and support from regulators, we are able to meet high demand during the peak of Eid transport,” said Cin in his statement in Jakarta, quoted Thursday, April 18 2024.
Meanwhile, Changi Airport in Singapore and Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand occupy the second and third positions as the busiest airports in Southeast Asia in April 2024 according to OAG data.
Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Dwi Ananda, explained that during the Eid 2024 transport period, from H-7 to D+4 (3-15 April), the number of passenger movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport reached 2.02 million people , an increase of 7% compared to the same period in 2023 which reached 1.88 million people.
During this period, the airline also operated 994 additional flights at Soetta Airport.
“Solid cooperation between all stakeholders has kept operations and services optimal amidst the surge in flight traffic. Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which operates 24 hours every day, ensures the availability of flight slots for airlines to serve the community’s needs during Eid transportation,” added Dwi.
The busiest flight destinations from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport during Eid 2024 transportation are Denpasar with 336,610 passengers, Medan 251,699 people, Surabaya 197,731 people, Makassar 170,596 people, and Padang 166,218 people.
Dwi emphasized that the readiness of infrastructure and facilities on the air and land side is very important to ensure smooth flights and services to passengers.
“In the midst of a surge in flight traffic during Eid transport, the reliability of facilities and infrastructure is crucial,” he said.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is currently served through three passenger terminals, namely Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, all of which are connected by skytrain to facilitate passenger mobility. (AT Network)
