ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The name of the school, Binus International School, is currently being discussed by the public and is under sharp scrutiny in Indonesia. This was caused by acts of violence and bullying allegedly carried out by a gang of students at the school.
This violence was carried out against new members of the gang, where the victim was forced to give something requested by the senior and received physical violence, such as being beaten, strangled, and even burned with cigarettes.
Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit, South Tangerang Resort Police, Ipda Galih Dwi Nuryanto, said that the victim of the bullying was currently being treated in hospital because he was suffering from bruises and burns.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Indonesian Teachers’ Unions (FSGI) is urging the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to step in and handle cases of violence and bullying committed by student gang members at the school. Because student gang violence has tarnished education in Indonesia.
Moreover, Binus International School Serpong is a Cooperation Agreement School Education unit whose permission is granted by the Ministry of Education,
Therefore, FSGI is pushing hard for the Ministry of Education to enforce the rules according to the provisions that have been set.
FSGI assesses that the various violence carried out on the victim until he was rushed to hospital violated the law.
School Rated Search Safe
Not only concerned, FSGI also regrets the statement by Binus International School which is considered to be safe and hands-off regarding this case. Remembering that the reason given was that the incident occurred outside of school.
“In fact, it is strongly suspected that the children of the victim and the perpetrator all attended the same school, namely Binus International School,” said FSGI in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, February 20 2024.
Meanwhile, Binus International School has stated that it will not tolerate perpetrators.
Haris Suhendra, Corporate PR at Binus University emphasized that he would side with the victims and investigate the incident seriously and quickly.
Binus School has also summoned the students involved and immediately received information from their parents.
Even so, Haris explained that the sanctions given followed school regulations.
