ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through the Integrated Task Force, has strengthened supervision and law enforcement at PT IMIP Morowali Special Airport and Port in Central Sulawesi and PT IWIP Weda Bay Special Airport and Port in North Maluku.
Since the command and control (Kodal) handover on November 21, 2025, the task force has uncovered multiple serious violations, including the seizure of two illegal nickel ore-carrying vessels by the Indonesian Navy on November 25, 2025, in Mandiodo Waters, North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi.
Anang Supriatna, S.H., M.H., Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General’s Office, stated that the two vessels owned by PT PMH, carrying cargo from PT DMS to PT IMIP Morowali, committed several serious offenses.
“Violations included operations at illegal jetties, lack of a Movement Approval Letter (SPOG), and missing or invalid vessel and cargo documents,” Anang explained on Monday, December 8, 2025.
The task force, composed of TNI, National Police, Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, BMKG, AirNav Indonesia, Aviation Security (Avsec), and the Attorney General’s Office, escorted the vessels to Lanal Kendari for further legal processing.
On land, on December 5, 2025, the TNI Air Force Rapid Action Corps (Kopasgat), part of the integrated task force at PT IWIP Weda Bay Special Airport, foiled a mineral smuggling attempt by a foreign national identified as MY.
The suspect was found carrying five packs of mixed nickel powder and four packs of pure nickel powder on a Super Air Jet flight from Weda Bay to Manado.
This arrest underscores the effectiveness of the integrated task force, especially since the airport previously lacked mandatory government surveillance measures for monitoring people and cargo movements.
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin highlighted the existence of “regulatory anomalies” that pose risks to national economic sovereignty.
He stressed the need for regulatory reform and strengthening defense capabilities at strategic industrial points.
“The government will not stop cracking down on illegal activities that harm national resources, including illegal mining cases in Bangka, Morowali, and Weda Bay,” the Defense Minister emphasized.
The Indonesian government has assured that the integrated task force will continue tightening oversight of people, goods, and logistics at all special airports and ports.
This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to protecting economic sovereignty, preventing smuggling, and ensuring that all industrial activities comply with legal regulations and national interests. (AT Network)
