ASIATODAY.ID, PEKANBARU – The Indonesian National Army (TNI) Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force are carrying out Coordinated Patrols to create a conducive situation in the border area, specifically in the Malacca Strait.
Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base Commander, Marshal TNI Mohammad Nurdin, said this activity was a form of defense cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia to maintain the security and stability of the two countries’ air space.
According to Nurdin, the strategic position of the Malacca Strait, which is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, also requires extra supervision.
It is hoped that this cooperation will create security and be able to suppress law violations and maintain security stability in the Malacca Strait.
“This is one of Indonesia’s commitments to improving bilateral relations with Malaysia. Through this joint patrol, the two countries are committed to maintaining the security and stability of the air space, especially in the Malacca Strait,” said Nurdin in his statement, Friday (10/11/2023).
The Coordinated Patrol which was held on Wednesday (8/11/2023) is routinely carried out every year.
On the Coordinated Patrol, the Indonesian Air Force deployed F-16 fighter aircraft from Air Squadron 16, Air Wing 6, Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base.
Two F-16 fighter planes from the 16th Air Squadron piloted by First Lieutenant (Pnb) Defry Utama Putra and First Lieutenant (Pnb) Ghazi Umar Marzuq joined with aircraft from the Royal Malaysian Air Force piloted by Captain (Pnb) Didik Firmansyah together with First Lieutenant (Pnb) Ghazi Umar Marzuq.
