ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to strengthen, marked by a high-level meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and a UAE delegation at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The meeting took place in a warm and collaborative atmosphere, underscoring both nations’ shared commitment to deepening their strategic partnership across key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and education.

The UAE delegation was led by Faisal Al Bannai, Advisor to the President of the UAE for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology and Chairman of EDGE Group.

He was accompanied by Abdulla Salem Al-Dhaheri (UAE Ambassador to Indonesia), Omar Al Zaabi, Ahmed Al Shamsi, and Abdulla Al Marzooqi.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Abdulla Salem Al-Dhaheri stated that discussions with President Prabowo focused on expanding strategic cooperation that has grown significantly in recent years.

He noted that bilateral trade between Indonesia and the UAE has surged to over USD 5 billion, up from USD 1.9 billion in 2021.

“We discussed many areas of cooperation, including housing, infrastructure, and other strategic sectors,” said Al-Dhaheri.

He added that the partnership between Indonesia and the UAE, once centered mainly on oil and gas, ports, and education, has expanded rapidly since the 2019 visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, to Indonesia.

“We have now collaborated in renewable energy, education, and agriculture. One key example is the Cirata renewable energy project in West Java, which continues to develop. I am confident that the relationship between our two countries will remain on a positive path,” he said.

On energy cooperation, Al-Dhaheri highlighted the vast potential for joint exploration and production of natural gas in Indonesia. He emphasized that UAE collaboration is not only about energy production but also about technology transfer and job creation to support Indonesia’s clean energy transition.

“We are working together on natural gas production in the Andaman Sea, Aceh Province—a major discovery, the first of its kind in Indonesia in 20 years. This is a success story for renewable energy and innovation. We always seek partnerships that bring value to Indonesia and create employment for its people,” he explained.

In addition to energy and infrastructure, education remains a top priority for both nations. Al-Dhaheri revealed that a UAE education delegation will soon visit Indonesia to explore further opportunities for collaboration.

“We have an education delegation coming from the UAE, and you will soon hear many positive updates about our educational partnership,” he concluded.

With this renewed momentum, the Indonesia–UAE partnership is entering a new phase — evolving beyond trade into a comprehensive strategic collaboration in sustainable development, technology innovation, and clean energy advancement. (AT Network)
