ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated three documentary legacies from Indonesia as Memory of the World for Asia and the Pacific in Ulaanbaatar.
“The three are the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol manuscript, the Indarung Semen Padang archive, and the archive of the Indonesian Sugar Research Institute for 1887-1986,” said the Chair of the National Library’s Archipelago Manuscript Management Working Group, Aditia Gunawan in a written statement quoted on Thursday, May 9 2024.
It is said that the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol manuscript was proposed by the National Library and the West Sumatra Provincial Government, while the Indarung Semen Padang archive was proposed by PT Semen Padang, and the archives about the Indonesian Sugar Research Institute for 1887-1986 were proposed by the East Java Library and Archives Office and the Indonesian Sugar Research Institute. .
“Indonesia submitted one manuscript and two archives. All three were accepted as Memory of the World for Asia and the Pacific,” he said.
By designating these three documents as Memory of the World for Asia and the Pacific, the National Library invites all parties to work together to preserve this cultural heritage.
Cultural preservation is important because it has been registered and recognized internationally.
In the future, it is important for the government and other stakeholders to ensure and guarantee the preservation of the three documents.
This also includes continuing research and dissemination of the three documents and programs that can support the two archives and one manuscript becoming more widely known to the public.
According to Aditia, this document is considered significant not only nationally but also at a global level.
For example, the contents of the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol text contain or teach about peace and conciliation.
“This manuscript is important because it is the only one in the world. So it is very rare and special,” he added. (ATN)
