A New Era for Indonesia’s Industrial Zones

Wijaya Kusuma Industrial Area in Semarang City, Central Java. Special

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen the foundation of a competitive, efficient, and sustainable industrial ecosystem through the establishment of new industrial zone standards.

This initiative is formalized under Minister of Industry Regulation Number 26 of 2025 on Industrial Zone Standards and Accreditation, a derivative of Government Regulation Number 20 of 2024 on Industrial Zoning.

The new regulation marks a new era in Indonesia’s industrial zone governance, emphasizing the importance of standardization in infrastructure, environmental management, and service quality to ensure that industrial zones serve as engines of economic growth and regional development across the nation.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted that implementing these standards and accreditation measures is a strategic step to build a modern and globally competitive industrial system.

“Through the application of these standards, we aim to ensure that every industrial zone meets quality benchmarks in services, infrastructure, and environmental management. This will enhance investor confidence and strengthen the contribution of industrial zones to national economic growth,” the Minister stated in Jakarta, October 18, 2025.

Minister of Industry Regulation Number 26/2025 introduces three main assessment indicators for industrial zone accreditation:

Infrastructure quality (weight: 50%),

Environmental management (weight: 25%), and

Management and service performance (weight: 25%).

Assessments will be conducted by the Industrial Zone Committee, and zones achieving a minimum score of 150 will receive official accreditation certificates from the Ministry. The accreditation standard also serves as a requirement within the Business Licensing for Supporting Industrial Zone Activities framework.

Director General for Industrial Resilience, Zoning, and International Access Tri Supondy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing integrated, modern, and environmentally conscious industrial governance.

“These standards will serve as a guide for industrial zone operators to ensure that all aspects of infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and service management are efficient, transparent, and aligned with sustainability principles,” Tri stated.

The event brought together over 173 industrial zone operators, including those from national strategic projects, representatives from ministries and regional governments, the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association, and international development partners such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

A key highlight of the event was the signing of an Aide Memoire between the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO, as part of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) Indonesia – Phase II. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mathias Domenig, Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland to Indonesia.

Through this collaboration, the two parties will establish the Eco-Industrial Park Center, envisioned as a center of excellence to enhance the capacity of industrial zone managers in implementing green industry principles and promoting sustainable development practices across Indonesia.

The implementation of industrial zone standards and accreditation is expected to drive the creation of world-class industrial zones—efficient, competitive, and environmentally responsible—thereby strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global industrial supply chain and supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
