“As we look ahead to the next quarter century, ADB remains committed to strengthening our partnership with Turkmenistan,” said ADB President Masato Kanda on November 11, 2025.

“Together, we will continue to drive innovation, shared ambition, and tangible results that improve lives across the country.”

New Project to Strengthen Turkmenistan’s Health Sector

A highlight of the visit was the signing of a €64.7 million (US$75 million) loan agreement for the Improving Nursing Quality and Capacity Project—ADB’s first initiative in Turkmenistan’s health sector.

The project aims to establish a modern nursing college in Ashgabat, improving the quality and capacity of the national health workforce. It is also supported by a US$2 million grant from the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific.

President Kanda visited the Ashgabat Nursing School, the main beneficiary of the project, where he met teachers and students dedicated to advancing healthcare education and improving patient care nationwide.

Expanding Cooperation in Energy, Infrastructure, and Private Sector Development

In addition to the health sector, ADB and Turkmenistan agreed to expand collaboration in railway modernization, energy transition, and private sector development.

President Kanda also met with Central Bank Chairman Toyly Malikov to discuss ongoing projects and explore new investment opportunities.

He reaffirmed ADB’s readiness to support Turkmenistan’s economic diversification and inclusive growth through innovative financing and strategic partnerships.

A Quarter Century of Partnership for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

Since establishing cooperation in 2000, ADB has been a key development partner in Turkmenistan’s journey toward sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Over the past 25 years, the partnership has focused on enhancing infrastructure, improving connectivity, and building a more resilient and diversified economy.

This milestone visit underscores ADB’s continued commitment to supporting Turkmenistan’s national development goals, promoting green energy, and empowering future generations through education and health investments. (AT Network)
