ASIATODAY.ID, CAIRO – The Arab Parliament has approved a proposal to form a team that will file charges against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its crimes against the Palestinian people who are currently still facing genocide.

According to Arab Parliament member Nasser Abu Bakr, the decision was taken at a plenary session at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on October 27, 2024.

He said that 34 parliamentarians signed the proposal to form the team, which was then unanimously approved by voting.

The Secretariat General of the Arab Parliament, represented by its deputy chairman, Ahmad Al Jabouri, will coordinate with the Palestinian delegation to determine the process and content of the charges.

Abu Bakr underlined the importance of the efforts of the Arab Parliament and the international community to file a lawsuit at the International Court against the crimes of the Israeli occupation to hold its leaders accountable.

The demands include the issuance of arrest warrants for those responsible for the genocide against the Palestinian people that has been going on since last year until now.

During the session, Abu Bakr also presented the report of the Palestinian Committee to parliament and reported the current situation on the Palestinian political issue to the members.

He praised the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for its important role in the fields of education, health and support for the Palestinian people.

According to Abu Bakr, UNRWA has provided significant assistance to some 6.4 million refugees. (WAFA)
