ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the People’s Republic of China have reached a landmark agreement to conclude negotiations on the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) Version 3.0. The signing is scheduled to take place during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
During a press briefing in Jakarta, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn emphasized that FTA 3.0 will mark a significant step forward in ASEAN-China economic relations. The upgraded agreement is designed to reinforce existing cooperation while expanding into innovative and high-growth sectors.
“FTA 3.0 not only strengthens our current trade partnership but also introduces new areas of collaboration, particularly in strategic fields such as the digital economy and technological innovation,” Kao stated.
The meeting also welcomed the ASEAN-China Digital Action Plan 2026–2030, which aims to accelerate digital transformation across the region.
As part of this initiative, China proposed the establishment of an ASEAN-China Digital Academy, intended to enhance digital capacity-building among ASEAN member states.
These developments reflect the shared commitment of ASEAN and China to building an inclusive and sustainable free trade and digital ecosystem, amid the evolving dynamics of the global economy. (AT Network)
