ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – ASEAN and China reiterated the commitment of both parties to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) at the 25th ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) Meeting held at ASEAN Headquarters.
Through an official statement from the ASEAN Secretariat received in Jakarta, Wednesday, China underlined that it places a high priority on its relations with ASEAN as part of its country’s diplomacy.
China also reiterated its support for efforts to build the ASEAN Community and ASEAN Centrality so that ASEAN plays a greater role in the growing regional architecture.
The two sides exchanged views on developments in ASEAN and China as well as the continued progress of ASEAN-China cooperation over the past year. Progress has been made in implementing various areas under the ASEAN-China Action Plan 2021-2025 and its annexes.
The implementation of the agreement includes advancing CSP, including political dialogue and cooperation, non-traditional security, trade and investment, science and technology, digital economy, tourism, environment, education, public health, culture and information, environment, youth exchange and disaster management.
The two parties also discussed the theme of cooperation for this year, namely the Year of ASEAN-China People’s Exchange. The meeting noted China’s proposals regarding projects and activities to be carried out throughout the year.
The meeting further discussed ways to improve cooperation under the CSP. Several areas were highlighted as priorities to make the partnership more substantive, meaningful and mutually beneficial.
A number of areas in question are strengthening trade and investment through improving the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, effective implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), supply chains, tourism, connectivity, agriculture, digitalization and exchange between communities.
The meeting also noted China’s proposal for the outcome document of the ASEAN-China Summit later this year. (AT Network)
