ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Chery Automobile has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its investment in Indonesia, with a total value of US$325 million.
The investment aims to strengthen Chery’s production capacity for hybrid and electric vehicles while enhancing its position in Indonesia’s rapidly growing automotive market.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita expressed his appreciation for Chery’s contribution to developing environmentally friendly vehicles in Indonesia. He emphasized that the government fully supports Chery’s participation in the Low Carbon Emission Vehicle (LCEV) program through the development of three main technologies: Full Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, and Electric Vehicle (EV).
“This investment commitment reflects Chery’s strong determination to support the growth of Indonesia’s automotive industry, particularly in low-emission and electric vehicles. The government will continue to facilitate the acceleration of this investment,” Minister Agus stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Chery’s investment in Indonesia began in 2024 and will continue through 2030. The funds will be allocated for the development of domestic production facilities—both through partnerships with local stakeholders and the establishment of Chery’s own manufacturing plant—designed to support large-scale electric vehicle production.
The Indonesian government has requested Chery to submit a more detailed five-year business plan, focusing on increasing production capacity and outlining its export strategy.
“We hope Indonesia will serve as Chery’s production and export base for the ASEAN region,” the Minister added.
National sales data show a strong upward trend in the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles. Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) have risen significantly, from only 0.08% of total car sales in 2021 to 10.22% between January and August 2025. Chery now ranks as the fourth-largest BEV brand in Indonesia by sales volume.
The Ministry of Industry encourages Chery to further expand its range of eco-friendly vehicles, providing Indonesian consumers with more diverse options suited to local market characteristics.
The government has also opened wider collaboration opportunities for technology development, human resource training, and the strengthening of Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
Furthermore, the Ministry hopes Chery will establish Indonesia as its regional production hub and export base for ASEAN and Australia. This aligns with Chery’s strong brand presence in Australia and the similarity of platforms between models produced there and those planned for production in Indonesia. (AT Network)
